Glowing barrels, fallout, and the occasional mutant — radiation is a classic ingredient of every post-apocalyptic story. But what really happens when radiation meets the human body, and how dangerous is it in reality? In this talk we’ll look at the basics of radioactivity, how radiation moves through the environment, and what it actually does to living organisms. Along the way we’ll clear up some of the myths from movies and games and take a realistic look at what surviving in a radioactive wasteland might really mean.
